League rugby finally returned to Bermuda on a windy night at Tom Healy Stadium and there were some big changes for the Renegades.

Tray has taken over coaching duties from Barry Archiballs and his professional experience of looking after dogs has proven invaluable in running Renegades training sessions.

With some long overdue retirements over the last 2 seasons, the Renegades are no longer looking like a veterans team. Robyn is still claiming to be under 40 and Brownie is trying hard to remain youthful after returning from Turkey with suspiciously voluminous flowing locks.

Bennnet took on the previously hotly contested title of the oldest man in the team. His experience showed with some strong carrying and try from 40m out. Unfortunately, his senility was also on show as he ignored a 6 man overlap and ran into the post instead. His early break led to a try for Brownie, but Teachers hit back with a try at the other end.

After conceding the try, Jimmy Bum saw an opportunity for a quick kick off and he booted the ball past the dead ball line and into the car park. The rest of the team, who were still behind the posts at the time, were thrilled to find out they got to restart the game with a scrum on the half way line.

There was an interesting incident in the 2nd half when the referee caught himself going off his feet at a ruck. Unsure how to penalise himself for this indiscretion, he decided to stick with what he had been doing the rest of the game and randomly award a scrum.

Renegades ran in 2 tries in the second half to earn an impressive win despite a late fightback from last year’s league winners.

Earlier in the evening, Renegades Ladies also got off to a strong start beating Teachers 12-0. There were concerns the ladies league would be down to 3 teams, but Jeff Bezos stepped in at the last minute to sponsor a new 4th team. Unfortunately, they couldn’t deliver the goods losing 41-0 to Police.
